the yogaloft is one of the first vinyasa yoga studios in Europe to go green. We are committed to being as green as possible. The studio & massage rooms are laid with eco-bamboo floors, a highly renewable natural source. We 'reduce our use' & recycle paper even though the building does not provide facilities. We've planted tens of thousands of trees through 'trees for the future'. the yogaloft is a member of the Green Yoga Association. Every action matters. simple solutions:
1. One of the most important things you can do is be sure your fridge & all major appliances have the EPA energy star label and use 450 kilowatt hours or less per year. 2. Check that your water heater is well insulated & make sure the pilot light isn’t blocked. 3. Switch to compact fluorescent light bulbs. 4. Use power strips to stop leaking electricity. 5. Turn off lights when not in the room. (a no-brainer oder?!) 6. Unplug before going on vacation (40 watts leak every hour by TV & cable boxes, even when turned off) 7. Plant trees!!! Businesses worldwide use over 15 million miles of paper every day. That is A LOT of paper. Use less!!! 8. Fly less. Trade your car in for a bike. Take the train and slow down. 9. Checkout the carbon offset worksheet on www.plant-trees.org. Every 1,000 miles you fly = 500 lbs of CO2-plant 10 trees!
The world loses 100,000 acres of forest every day. Planting trees brings back bio-diversity, endangered species, feeds hungry people, grows community, provides shelter, sustains our future. Everything revolves around the planting of trees.
1 tree= 50 pounds CO2 out of the air & converts it into food, medicines, homes. People are waiting for something to do, to make a difference, to leave their contribution to this planet! DO 1 THING DAILY!
Personal action is important. The problem of global warming is huge and what you do may seem inconsequential, but it IS important. Everybody making a change, adds up to something meaningful shifting the way we act and live is part of the long term solution. Your actions show how you care (or don't).-david suzuki scientist & environmentalist
